2020 Offseason Needs – NFC East

Philadelphia Eagles

Biggest need: WR
Other needs: CB, LB

It was painfully obvious last season that this Eagles team are in desperate need of a top-tier wide receiver. Their top three receivers at the end of the season were tight ends Zach Ertz (88 rec, 916 yds) and Dallas Goedert (58 rec, 607 yds) and running back Miles Sanders (50 rec, 509 yds). Neither Nelson Agholor or Alshon Jeffery impressed when they were on the field and I would expect the Eagles to invest their first-round pick and secure a future number-one receiver for Carson Wentz.

Their other obvious area of need is at cornerback where none of their corners achieved a PFF Coverage grade above 70 in 2019. With Ronald Darby and Jalen Mills set for free agency and both Sidney Jones and Rasul Douglas entering the final year of their rookie deals, they need to invest heavily at the position. Their lack of a true top-tier linebacker was also noticeable last season, as they combined for a paltry 22 pressures all season.

Dallas Cowboys

Biggest need: CB
Other needs: S, TE

This is a difficult one as it all depends on re-signing Dak Prescott and Amari Cooper. I can’t see the Cowboys letting either off them leave this offseason so assuming they are still in Dallas come September the team will need to address the hole at corner left by a departing Byron Jones. In my Mock Draft 1.0 I had the Cowboys taking a safety in the first-round but if Jones leaves I would not be surprised to see them take someone like C.J. Henderson or Kristian Fulton at No. 17.

At safety they have Jeff Heath approaching free agency and Xavier Woods set to enter the final year of his rookie deal. Given their cap situation if they re-sign their major impending free agents they will likely want to take a look at safeties in the draft, with either Xavier McKinney in the first round or Antoine Winfield Jr. in the second both intriguing prospects. Securing a successor to Jason Witten at tight end has to be another priority for Dallas this offseason but given their shortage of cap space a mid-round draft choice likely the most realistic option here.

New York Giants

Biggest need: EDGE
Other needs: OL, CB

Markus Golden is an impending free agent after becoming the first Giant to double-digit sacks since 2014 and the Giants need to get a legitimate pass-rush threat this offseason. They look set to miss out on Chase Young in the draft and could instead look at either Jadeveon Clowney or Yannick Ngakoue in free agency, although the latter likely to be franchise tagged. Both would be expensive options but the Giants need to add a quality pass-rusher to compliment their talent on the interior defensive line.

Investing in their offensive line to protect Daniel Jones is a no-brainer and I would expect them to go in this direction with the fourth overall pick in the draft. They struggled at tackle all season, giving up more pressures than any other team in the league and have issues at center that need addressing too. Their slew of young cornerbacks performed dreadfully in 2019, each allowing a 100+ passer rating when targeted in coverage and it might be the right time to make a move for a proven NFL talent at the position in free agency.

Washington Redskins

Biggest need: CB
Other needs: OL, WR

The Redskins can improve across the board but addressing their needs at cornerback is top of the bill. Quinton Dunbar has only one year left on his contract and is demanding a trade or release if the team continue to avoid negotiations. Re-signing Dunbar should be a high priority for Washington given his brilliant 2019 season that saw him rank second in coverage grade across the NFL according to PFF. Aside from Dunbar, their next best starting corner was Jimmy Moreland whose 61.3 grade ranked 96th.

They need to invest in their offensive line too. It is still unclear whether or not Trent Williams will agree to return and their best offensive lineman in his absence, Brandon Scherff, is set to become a free agent. If they can afford to re-sign both then it would be a wise move for Ron Rivera to make. Terry McLaurin was outstanding at receiver in his rookie year but Washington also need to add more depth at the position if they are going to be successful moving forward. Given the depth at receiver in this year’s draft they may be able get value with someone like K.J. Hill in the third round.
