College Football Week 13 – Team of the Week

There were a number of big rivalry games in college football this weekend and they delivered on expectation. Whether it was The Game or the Iron Bowl, there was a tonne of great football on display. Here are the best performances from Week 13.

QB – Carson Strong, Nevada

Strong has his best game of the season this weekend against Colorado State. He averaged over 13 yards per attempt whilst posting an adjusted completion rate of 90.5%. He threw for four touchdowns and no interceptions, with a ridiculous 22.7% big time throw rate.

RB – Hassan Haskins, Michigan

Michigan’s win over Ohio State was the biggest story of the weekend and they couldn’t have done it without Haskins. He racked up 169 yards on his 28 carries and scored five of the Wolverines’ six touchdowns. This was the most by a single player in The Game’s storied history and tied Michigan’s single game record.

RB – Tyjae Spears, Tulane

Spears ran riot against Memphis, finishing up with 264 yards on his 30 carries. He led all running backs in rushing yards, forced missed tackles (12), and explosive runs (eight). He also managed to find the end zone twice as the Green Wave came close to upsetting Memphis.

WR – Skyy Moore, Western Michigan

Moore was unstoppable for the Broncos on Wednesday night. He racked up 12 receptions for an impressive 206 yards. He had four touchdowns too, tying the Western Michigan single game record in the process. More than half of his yardage came after the catch and he forced five missed tackles.

WR – Treylon Burks

Burks was a big play threat for the Razorbacks this weekend and had his second 100+ yard game in as many weeks. He had 129 yards on just seven receptions, accounting for almost half of the team’s receiving yards. He finished up with a perfect passer rating when targeted of 158.3.

TE – Travis Koontz, Texas Tech

The Red Raiders might have lost to Baylor, but Koontz had an excellent game. He caught all of his five targets for 117 yards and a touchdown. This was the most of any tight end this weekend. He was also fantastic with the ball in his hands, with 77% of his yardage coming after the catch.

OT – Dalton Wagner, Arkansas

Wagner had a great game as the Razorbacks won convincingly over Missouri. He was outstanding in pass protection and didn’t allow a pressure on his 25 pass blocking snaps. His ability as a run blocker was on full display too. He earned an 87.1 PFF run blocking grade as Arkansas racked up 163 rushing yards and an average of 4.9 yards per carry.

OT – Bernhard Raimann, Central Michigan

Raimann finds himself on this list in back-to-back weeks after another impressive showing, this time against Eastern Michigan. He showed up in the running game, but once again it was his ability in pass protection that stood out. Raimann has now not conceded a single pressure in six straight games.

IOL – Tyler Linderbaum, Iowa

It feels like Linderbaum has an automatic spot on this list, having featured on it every time since Week 10. He continues to be one of the most dominant run blockers in the country and has allowed just one pressure in pass protection since Week 5.

IOL – LaQuinston Sharp, Mississippi State

Sharp gets plenty of exposure in pass protection in Mike Leach’s Air Raid offense and he played brilliantly this weekend. His 70 pass blocking snaps were tied for the most of any interior lineman this weekend, yet he did not surrender a single pressure. Sharp has now played 166 pass blocking snaps without allowing a pressure.

IOL – Cole Schneider, UCF

Schneider had a great game against USF this weekend. He didn’t allow a single pressure on his 27 pass blocking snaps and earned an impressive 85.6 PFF run blocking grade. Schneider was the only interior lineman in college football to earn 85+ PFF grades in both run blocking and pass protection.

IDL – Jonah Tavai, San Diego State

The Aztecs pulled off the upset win over Boise State and Tavai played a huge part. He finished the game with 11 pressures, the most of any interior lineman this weekend. He also led all interior linemen with six defensive stops.

IDL – C.J. Brewer, Coastal Carolina

Brewer had a great game for the Chanticleers this weekend. He racked up six pressures on 49 pass rushing snaps, the second most of any interior linemen. He also contributed five total defensive stops, which was the third most at the position.

EDGE – Aidan Hutchinson, Michigan

Hutchinson showed up on the biggest of stages this weekend. He registered an absurd 15 pressures against a talented Ohio State offensive line, whilst also sacking C.J. Stroud three times. With games like this it is easy to see why some see Hutchinson as a potential No. 1 overall pick.

EDGE – Kayvon Thibodeaux, Oregon

The other leading contender for the top pick in this year’s draft is Thibodeaux. He had an excellent game against Oregon State, finishing with nine pressures, including five quarterback hits. His 38.9% pass rush win rate was the second highest of any edge defender this weekend.

LB – Josh Chandler-Semedo, West Virginia

Chandler-Semedo was everywhere for the Mountaineers this weekend. He had just one miss on his 11 tackle attempts and had five defensive stops. In addition to forcing a fumble, he also contributed two interceptions on his three targets.

LB – Mikel Jones, Syracuse

Syracuse didn’t beat Pittsburgh, but Jones was excellent throughout. He had 16 tackles in this game, the second most of any defender this weekend. His eight defensive stops were also the second most of any defender and he allowed a passer rating of just 79.2 in coverage.

CB – Andrew Booth Jr., Clemson

This game showed why many believe Booth to be a top ten prospect in this year’s class. He was targeted four times in coverage by South Carolina. He didn’t allow a single reception and contributed two interceptions and a pass breakup.

CB – Theo Jackson, Tennessee

Jackson was exceptional against Vanderbilt. He allowed a single reception for four yards, whilst also snagging an interception and a pass breakup. He gave up a passer rating of just 2.8 in coverage. Jackson also notched two pressures as a pass rusher and didn’t miss a tackle all game.

CB – Kahlef Hailassie, Western Kentucky

Hailassie had a great game against Marshall this weekend. He didn’t miss any of his seven tackle attempts and provided three defensive stops. In coverage he was targeted six times but didn’t allow any yards. He had two pass breakups, giving up a passer rating of just 42.4

S – DeMarcco Hellams, Alabama

Hellams held his own in a tough Iron Bowl matchup this weekend. The junior safety gave up just one catch for seven yards all game. He also provided three pass breakups, allowing a passer rating of just 39.6. He didn’t have a single miss as a tackler either and contributed two defensive stops.

S – Lakevias Daniel, Southern Miss

Daniel was pretty much faultless against FIU this weekend. He didn’t miss any of his seven tackle attempts. In coverage he didn’t allow a single catch, whilst contributing an interception and two pass breakups. He allowed a passer rating of 0.0 when targeted.
